Green Spaces Counter The Blues

Our latest project, Green Spaces Counter The Blues, uses community expertise to create green spaces vital for individual and community well-being.

Proudly supported by FRRR

In recognition of the value that public and private green spaces bring to community wellbeing, Green Spaces Counter the Blues aims to empower residents in the Shire of Manjimup to create green spaces that are more suited to the drying climate. This will be achieved through a series of workshops and activities designed to strengthen social connectivity while building a more waterwise community.

Activities deliver grassroots education and support in developing soils and gardens that are resilient to drought stress and recover more rapidly post-crisis,. Based on a view that understanding must precede implementation, workshops will develop a deeper understanding of water as a resource.

This project is supported by FRRR (The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renew) through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.

Check out our blog for more information as this project progresses.

Workshop One - Design Your Garden

The first in a series of garden design workshops, to help our community become more drought-resilient and create enjoyable green spaces. Presented by local retired landscape architect and keen gardener Vicki Winfield, come along to learn the tips and tricks of what to consider when planning your garden. Vicki has lived in Smith Brook for over 30 years and has extensive knowledge of the region.

Workshop Two - Pantry Audit and Gardening Planning

This workshop marked the beginning of a series dedicated to Sustainable Living. The sessions will emphasis the importance of water and food security, growing crops for personal consumption, as well as nurturing mental well-being. By incorporating practices such as permaculture and regenerative agriculture, participants will learn how to optimise their spaces for increased productivity and efficiency. Susanne from Eight Acres Permaculture has been working in this space for over a decade and has a small acreage in Pemberton.
